Genelda Pha “Nellie” Gumescheimer, 82, passed away December 30,2022, at Ellinwood Country Place Senior Living, Ellinwood, Kan. She was bom October 26,1940, in Bazine, Kan., to Fred and Clara (Stieben) Rein, Jr. Nellie married Clarence Gumescheimer June 8, 1958, in Bazine. He survives. Nellie, a resident of Great Bend for over 30 years coming from Dodge City and Ness City, was passionate about making a loving home for her family, especially cherishing time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren. While residing in Ness City, Nellie enjoyed her employment at the Style Shop. She was an avid collector of coins and Precious Moment figurines, and enjoyed making noodles, embroidery, country music, and keeping an immaculate home. Nellie also received great joy from her Peekapoo grandpup, Maggie.

Kansas college football player shot, killed in Oklahoma

A football player at Fort Hays State University in Kansas was shot and killed outside a bar in Oklahoma City on New Year’s Day, police said. Daniel Howard, 22, died and four other people were injured in the shooting at Sunset Patio Lounge early Sunday, Oklahoma City police said.
