Area basketball season opener scores

You never want to overreact to opening week of Kansas High School basketball. Nonetheless, after waiting several months for the action to return and a busy slate of area games played in the opening week, here are the scores.

LIFT awarded grant

Representative members of LIFT Minneola were all smiles as they gratefully accepted a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas. Lift Minneola is a locally formed organization focused on enhancing the quality of life in Minneola.

DCCC: Women’s basketball routes Northwest Kansas Tech for 8th win

Dodge City women’s basketball returned to the win column on Wednesday as they roped an 86-40 win over Northwest Kansas Tech. The win moves the Conquistadors to 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in KJCCC action, while making it ninestraight wins at home (dating back to last season) and a five-game win streak over the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Tech in the series.

Peter “Pete” Rodriquez

Peter “Pete” Rodriquez, age 62, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the SunPorch Nursing Home in Dodge City, Kansas. He was born to Greg Rodriquez and Nadine Barron on July 24, 1960, in Rocky Ford, Colorado.

William Henry Shearer

DODGE CITY - William Henry Shearer, 84 died Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born September 5, 1938 at Decatur, Arkansas the son of OB and Marjorie (Barton) Shearer. He previously lived in Spearville moving to Dodge City in 1964. He was a jack of all trades, working as a truck driver, in the oil fields and for Dodge City Sand. He was a member of the Model A Club, Wichita, and Archery and RC Club and the VFW. He enjoyed working on 1934 Model A’s and model airplanes. He loved fishing and camping. Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 as an aircraft mechanic. On November 22, 1962 he married Glorinda Fagen at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

DODGE CITY - Keri Ann McLaren, 53 died Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at her home in Dodge City. She was born April 24, 1969 at Tempe, Arizona the daughter of Merle R.

Bandits soccer schedule

The Kansas Bandits are the newest members of the Major Arena Soccer League 2. The Bandits are the first of three new teams that an investment group is expected to launch in the Midwest with a focus on expanding pro indoor soccer’s footprint in the Heartland region.
