TOPEKA — Sen. Cindy Holscher opposed legislation carving into state law an education bill of rights guaranteeing public school parents the ability to conduct prior review of all curriculum materials, potentially censor or banish library books and begin laying the foundation of civil rights challenges.
The Dodge City USD 443 Board of Education had a busy night Monday with several recognitions for students and student-athletes, as well as putting in place to recruitment more teachers. One of the big-ticket agenda items discussed for approval was the phase two renovations for Memorial Stadium.
Noxious Weed Director David Nichols presented his annual management plan to the Ford County Commission at its March 22 meeting. Commissioners Shawn Tasset and Christopher Boys were present.
Whether it is permanent employment or a seasonal gig for extra cash, the City of Dodge City may have the job for you. On Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14, the city will be holding a job fair for open positions within the city that will offer, full-time, part-time and seasona employment.

In the first chapter of Genesis, verses 26 – 28, God clearly put mankind in charge of managing all wildlife He had created. Now, this does not give us any excuse to mismanage wildlife, or to abuse pets or domestic livestock. In fact, farmers, ranchers, and outdoor-sportsmen are the best conservationists on earth, because we all know that these animals represent our living and the continuation of our hunting, fishing and trapping. I say all this in preface to a list of some recent accomplishments and requests made by our well-intentioned but mislead brethren from the animals-rights activist group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.)
Auditions for our Summer Musical, and final production of the 2021-2022 Season, In The Heights, will take place next week in the Depot Theater. Ages 13+ are welcomed, with parent/guardian consent.
We live in a much more dangerous time than we used to. Kansas used to feel as though we were separate from the violent big cities you hear about on the news, but the last few years we have seen a disturbing rise in crime.

The Southwest Kansas Storm won its first home league game of the season 43-42 over the Wyoming Mustangs. The Mustangs led the majority of the game but allowed a 2-yard touchdown pass with 4 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Storm a 43-42 lead. After running the ball out of bounds on the kickoff, the Mustangs lined up for a 47-yard game-winning field goal attempt. The kick landed in the Storm’s black end zone as time expired to leave the Mustangs with the team’s first loss of the season and the Storm improved to 1-1 on the year.
