Betty Jo Denton

Betty Jo Denton, 87, died Sept. 5, 2012 at Minneola Long Term Care Unit. She was born Sept.10, 1924 at Osage County, Okla. to Lilburn and Janie Jo (Chowning) May. She graduated from Pawhuska High School, Pawhuska, Okla. and Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). She was a member and served as Elder and Clerk of Session at the Ashland Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Civic Club and P.E.O and Eastern Star. She had served two terms as Clark County Commissioner and was active in the Farm Bureau (County, State and National levels). She had served as a rural Representative of Clark County on the SW Kansas Library System.

On Aug. 18, 1946 she married Winfield Denton, II at Pawhuska, Okla. He died October 13, 2010.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother L.B. May.

Survivors include: a son, Winfield Denton of Minneola; two daughters: Debbie Maddy of Kansas City, Kan. and Kim Denton-Hill of Albuquerque, N.M.; 1 brother Eugene Baylis May of Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister Juanita King of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Ashland Presbyterian Church with Marsha Granberry officiating. Graveside Services and Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Appleton Township Cemetery, Minneola.
