4-H flea market scheduled for March 25

The Ford County 4-H Exchange Flea Market is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ford County Fair Building in Dodge City. Booth spaces are still available by contacting the Ford County Extension Office, 2nd floor, 100 Gunsmoke St. in Dodge City or by emailing Ethel Schneweis at eschnewe@ksu.edu. Spaces are very affordable and help the 4-H Exchange fund raiser for their expenses for out of state 4-H Exchange opportunities.

Dodge City fosters local talent for Youth Art Month

Local leaders showed their support for Youth Art Month (YAM) this week by proclaiming March Youth Art Month in Ford County and the City of Dodge City. Vice Mayor Joe Nuci read aloud this proclamation at the March 6 city commission meeting: WHEREAS, art education contributes powerful educational benefits to all elementary and secondary students including the following: • Art education develops students’ creative problem-solving and critical thinking abilities; • Art education teaches sensitivity to beauty, order, and other expressive qualities; • Art education gives students a deeper understanding of multi-cultural values and beliefs; • Art education reinforces and brings to life what students learn in other subjects; • Art education interrelates student learning in art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics, and WHEREAS our national leaders have acknowledged the necessity of including arts experiences in all students’ education, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that support should be given to art teachers as they attempt to strengthen art education in their schools and communities.

Autumn Perez wins national title in NJCAA women’s wrestling tournament

Umpqua Community College’s Autumn Perez (170) captured a individual title at the National Junior College Athletic Association women’s wrestling tournament on Saturday, March 4. Autumn Perez is a Dodge City High school alumnus and proved why Dodge City has the best wrestling in the country.While in High School she was a two-time state placer and a state runner up.
