Ms. Wheelchair Kansas seeking nominations

Ms. Wheelchair Kansas, Inc. is currently searching for women of achievement, who are wheelchair mobile, to serve as contestants in the 18th Annual Ms. Wheelchair Kansas event. Contestants can be nominated by a person or group or can choose to participate in the program. Organizations and companies are being encouraged to nominate women who are passionate, dynamic, articulate, and who have a message to share throughout the state. MWKS is also seeking nominations for the Little Miss Wheelchair Kansas program that celebrates young spirited girls, ages 5-12, who are wheelchair mobile.

Lawsuit alleges Dodge City leaders enabled sexism for decades

A female former Dodge City Police Captain this month filed suit against her former employer the City of Dodge City and Dodge City Police Chief Drew Francis for allegedly violating her civil rights. Colleen Brooks was constructively discharged from the force earlier this year, but not before she had investigated more than 600 sexual assault cases in southwest Kansas (the majority of which involved child victims,) 120 death investigations, hundreds of domestic violence crimes, and solving a local murder case that had been cold since 1985.

Hartung, 54, criminal damage to property; transporting an open container; DUI; operate a motor vehicle without a valid license; possession of marijuana; maximum speed limits; failure to yield at stop or yield sign; improper driving on laned roadway; flee or attempt to elude LEO by engaging in reckless driving.

This weekend, take a tag, save an angel

Through the past several weeks, I’ve discussed the history of The Salvation Army. Its birth in the slums of East London. Its journey across the Atlantic to America. Finally, its arrival here in Dodge City. Through it all, we’ve learned of names and faces of people long gone. Today, I’d like to introduce people who are very much still with us.
