DODGE CITY, Kan. (Sept. 21, 2022) – In June, Dodge City was chosen as one of 260 grantees for the 2022 Community Challenge Grant from AARP Livable Communities and AARP Kansas. This grant aims to create more livable communities through public art. Beginning September 23, the Dodge City Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) will begin hosting a series of round tables to solicit community input regarding the subjects of these murals.
Dodge City women’s golf team claims the tournament title in their second competition of the fall as they won the Crestview Invite hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. The Conquistadors shot rounds of 329 and 335 to finish with a team score of 664 (+88) to win the tournament by 37-strokes as Central Christian finished second.
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a debilitating, fatal disease that attacks the central nervous system of whitetail deer, mule deer, moose, caribou and elk, actually resulting in small holes developing in their brains. CWD was first diagnosed in captive animals in Colorado and Wyoming in the late 1960’s and 1970’s, and was seen in free ranging animals in the early 1980’s. Kansas’s fish and game officials have been testing hunter-harvested Kansas deer since 1996, and during the 2005 firearms season, the first documented case was discovered in a whitetail doe taken near the Cheyenne Co. town of St. Francis, in the northwestern corner of the state. Later that year KDWP staff harvested 50 deer, 29 mule deer and 21 whitetails within a 15-mile radius of where the infected doe was shot.
