Whitney Hodgin Dodge City Globe The Mexican Village was the main topic of conversation at a recent Torrez family reunion during Dodge City Days that included five generations of cousins and six elders who remember a much different Dodge City than the one in which they live today. Trevina Leija said her family gathers in “Papa Joe’s house” on Avenue J “every chance we get.” The Torrez family is featured in Tim Wenzl’s new book about the history of the Mexican Village, “A Place in Time.” In it are black and white photos of Torrez youngsters standing on the very bridge Leija led them back to more than 70 years later.
