KDOT hosts May 17 public meeting on intersection improvements near Dodge City

The public is invited to attend a public meeting for the U.S. 56/U.S. 283/U.S. 400/2nd Avenue intersection improvement project just south of Dodge City on Tuesday, May 17, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Dodge City Public Schools USD 443 Civic Center VIP Room, 2112 1st Ave. The Kansas Department of Transportation is hosting the event.

Better Business Bureau says it’s moving time; here’s how to do it scam-free

Since 1997, May has been designated as National Moving Month. It marks the beginning of the nation’s busiest time of year for moving – May through August. Your Better Business Bureau (BBB) fielded nearly 1,100 complaints against moving companies last year. BBB’s Scam Tracker had reports of more than $730,000 lost to moving scammers, a 216% increase from 2020. As we approach mid-May, this is a good time for consumers to educate themselves on how to avoid victimization by unscrupulous companies, and smooth out the famously rocky process of relocating their residence.

FIRE ON BRIER STREET INVESTIGATION UPDATE

Dodge City Fire Department Chief Ken Spencer said the April 21 structure fire at Santa Fe Townhomes was accidental and may have been electrical in nature. Six units located on Brier Street and Avenue K were destroyed by the fire that raged for about four hours before emergency responders from the Dodge City Fire Department and Ford County Fire and EMS extinguished it.
