Woman attacked by gang of strangers outside DCMS
The sun had not yet gone down on April 2 when a 26-year-old jogger was harassed and battered at Dodge City Middle School by a group of males unknown to her. Police used information provided by the victim to locate and charge one 17-year-old male suspect with a notice to appear, Chief Drew Francis said.
USDA accepts 2 million acres in offers through Conservation Reserve Program general signup
WASHINGTON – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture is accepting more than 2 million acres in offers from agricultural producers and landowners through the Conservation Reserve Program General signup, the first of the program’s multiple signups occurring in 2022. With about 3.4 million acres expiring this year, Vilsack encourages producers and landowners to consider the Grassland and Continuous signups, both of which are currently open.
Work is underway on U.S. 50/400 four-lane expansion
After years of planning and false starts, the much-anticipated four-lane expansion of Highway U.S./400 from Cimarron to Dodge City is officially underway. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the project will be done in three phases with the first phase starting in Gray near Cimarron and near Dodge City in Ford County.
DCHS Forensics wins the Nickerson Forensics Tournament, qualifies seven to state
The Dodge City High School forensics team continued its winning ways on Monday April 25 as the team returned home with 10 medals and qualified seven to the state championship as well as an overall team win of first place at the Nickerson High School Forensics Tournament.
Western State Bank, American Implement announce Ag Future Scholarship recipients
Garden City – American Implement and Western State Bank announced the recipients of their 2022 Ag Future Scholarship Program. The scholarship program provides a total of 10, $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and curren college students who intend to pursue an Ag-related program or degree at a university, community college or technical school.
Ford County ends COVID-19 disaster declaration
The Ford County Commission terminated the twoyear long COVID-19 state of emergency at its May 2 meeting. Commissioners Chris Boys and Shawn Tasset were present at the meeting and commissioner Ken Snook was present via speakerphone.

Pair of bold property crimes victimize city fire department
Dodge City Fire Department Ken Spencer said they had just boarded up the windows broken by vandals in the fire training center at 1st Avenue and Soule Street the morning of May 1 when another incident of brash property damage occurred the night of May 3.
City makes room for more in Maple Grove Cemetery
The Dodge City Commission voted to approve new rules and regulations for Maple Grove Cemetery at its May 2 meeting which will eventually generate about $600,000 in revenue and accommodate more than 2,000 more units.
