Kansas Heritage Center hires new archivist

What better place than the Kansas Heritage Center for a recent college graduate full of librarian archivist knowledge and a history degree? John Mason began his tenure at the center this month in a new position as library archivist. The position was created to oversee the records people donate to the center, which is located in the basement of the Dodge City Public Library.

DCCC’s Spring Fling Returns

With a few exceptions, Spring Fling—a crazy, competitive and fun week of spring activities—was celebrated nearly every year on the Dodge City Community College campus from 1972 until at least 2011. And just in time for its 50th anniversary, the college is reviving the tradition with a full week of Spring Fling activities scheduled for April 18-22.

US Department of Labor awards $855K to Kansas continue to provide employment, training services in response to aviation industry layoffs

WASHINGTON – Known as the “Air Capital of the World,” the Wichita, Kansas, area is home to some of the world’s largest aerospace manufacturers, so there was a significant ripple effect in the region after the grounding of the Boeing 737 in 2020. Two years later, industry layoffs continue to affect more than 9,000 workers, prompting the U.S. Department of Labor to provide funding to help workers in six counties prepare for new employment opportunities.

Skunks I have met

I’ve had some interesting adventures over the years involving skunks in traps, the worst of which led to a drive home in my underwear so I didn’t totally contaminate the inside of my truck. Looking back, I can call them interesting now, but at the time my descriptions were slightly different. Skunks are fairly laid-back critters and if caught in an enclosed or covered cage trap can usually be carted away in the trap and unceremoniously dumped somewhere without incident.

What to expect at the 2022 3i SHOW

On Thursday, March 17, the 68th annual 3i SHOW in Dodge City is upon us and with it some special events and demonstrations to meet the agricultural industry’s needs. According to Western Kansas Manufacturers Association president and sponsor of the 3i SHOW Eddie Estes, there will be 150 spaces available for patrons attending the three-day event at the Western State Bank Expo Center.
