Hospitals brace for ‘long, tough winter’

Kansas has yet to officially record a case of the new omicron variant as the delta coronavirus strain continues to be behind a COVID-19 surge that has filled hospitals. Three of the four states bordering Kansas have confirmed omicron cases and Matt Lara, a spokesperson for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said it is “very likely the new variant is here and we just haven’t found it yet.” Two cases were suspected of being omicron in recent days but were sequenced and determined to be the delta variant, Lara added.
