FIRST IN-PERSON DLG RUN A SUCCESS
The 2nd annual and first in-person DLG Jingle Bell Run/Walk 5K and costume contest was held on Saturday at Dodge City Family YMCA. Proceeds for the event went to Ford County Suicide Prevention Coalition and Dodge City High School Student Club. The run was in honor of Devon Griego, of Dodge City, who died by suicide in 2018. “We raised $800 between online and in-person sign ups,” event organizer Charree Rodriguez said. “It was a good turnout for the first year, but next year I’m looking forward to some new ideas.” PROVIDED BY CHARREE RODRIGUEZ

Dodge City Special Olympics team receives grant
The Dodge City Special Olympics team is a recent recipient of a $2,200 grant from the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas. According to Michelle Leatherwood with Dodge City Special Olympics, the grant will go towards the team purchasing the equipment necessary to learn to new games to compete in as well as get its athletes back into athletic and social activities that Olympics provides for them.
No injuries in trash can fire at Northwest Elementary
On Monday afternoon, according to Dodge City USD 443 public information officer Kerri Baker, local Fire/EMS services responded to alarm at Northwest Elementary. “There was a fire started in a trash can,” Baker said.

Storm drenches Southern California with heavy rain LOS ANGELES – Rain drenched Southern California on Tuesday as a powerful storm slid down the state, snarling traffic as vehicles spun out and raising the threat of mudslides in areas scarred by wildfires.
