DONALD DEAN KREIE

Hutchinson, Ks-Donald Dean Kreie took his final checkered flag in the great race that was his life on Monday April 17th, 2023. He joined the love of his life, his trophy girl, wife LaVerra(Sue) Kreie. They were married July 1st 1959 in Dodge City, Ks, she preceded him in death. He was born in Stafford the 27th of February 1938 to Jess and Nellie Kreie and moved with them and the family to Dodge City as a young boy. His career started as an apprentice at Stewart Plumbing and after serving in the US Navy he returned home to become a foreman pipefitter for the union. He was a leader in building refineries around several states. He loved car racing and spent several years driving race cars at McCarty Speedway in Dodge and the surrounding tracks. He was most known for being the driver of #8 on the Bell 6 & 8 Team. He became state champion at the Hutchinson Nationals in 1974 and is memorialized at the Ks State Fair track. Together he and his wife moved their family to Hutchinson, Ks in 1977 to the same home he was living in at the time of passing. Upon retiring he opened A-Deal Motors in Hutchinson, and was able to devote more time to his passion of league pool playing. He was still playing 3 times a week at the Silver Dollar, he played his last games just a couple weeks before passing at the age of 85. He had made several long term friendships during his years in the leagues since beginning at the R-Bar. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVerra, parents Jess and Nellie, siblings Bud, Estel, Vera, Paulette, Rosie, and Shirley, and his oldest child Dirk Kreie. He is survived by his son Donavan Kreie, Hutch, his daughters Stacy(Mim) Kreie of Hutch, Rocio Cochran of Kansas City, Mo, Starla Kreie, Wichita, Ks. And one sister Delores Bernash of Dodge City. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
