Peggy Ellen Vogel was born December 7, 1949, in Dodge City, KS to Billy and Frances (Karns) Henderson and passed away in Kansas City, MO on Tuesday February 1, 2023. She grew up in Dodge City and overall spent most of her life in southwest Kansas.

NORMA LOUISE SETTLEMYER

Norma Louise Settlemyer, 71, of Dodge City, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the home of her sister, Mayetta, in Burlington, KS. Norma was born November 2, 1951 at Yates Center, KS, the daughter of Norman Richard and Velma Louise (Pendley) Settlemyer. She attended the Burlington schools where she was a talented athlete. She especially enjoyed softball. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1969. She was a member of a track and field club in Topeka. She was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. She started out driving her father’s milk truck while in high school. She was employed for a number of years at the Ford County Landfill at Dodge City before retiring last years. She was a cat lover. She is survived by two sisters, Mayetta Ruth Taylor, Burlington, and Lila Belle Winterringer, New Strawn, KS; a brother, Arthur Settlemyer, Burlington; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Norma will be cremated. No services are scheduled. Jones Funeral Home in Burlington is assisting the family.

FORD Jacqueline Ann Doody, 66, died Monday, February 6, 2023 at Minneola District Hospital, Minneola, Kansas. She was born on December 17, 1956 at Tulsa, Oklahoma the daughter of Earl and Evelyn (Schmidt) Tompkins.

HOWARD SPENCER

Howard Earl Spencer, 50, joined the Lord for eternal joy on February 3, 2023. He was born to Vertie Lee Spencer on October 13, 1972, in Jacksonville, Texas. Howard spent his younger years growing up in the rural area of Jacksonville, Texas, where he played sports for the Jacksonville High School, graduating in 1991. He was recruited by Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, for his outstanding scholarship in the classroom and his exceptional football skills on the defensive line. After graduating from Southwestern College with a Bachelors of History and Health PE Recreation, he continued his education at Kansas State University, receiving his Master’s Degree of Science in Special Education. He began teaching Special Education in the Manhattan, KS High School. In 2004, Howard settled in Dodge City, KS where he taught Special Education at the Middle School level. Howard also served the Dodge City community through his employment at Arrowhead West, Inc and Youthville. Howard was employed at the Comanche Middle School at the time of his passing. Howard was a long-time member of the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene where he facilitated a support group for hurting people, and was very involved with the youth group. He loved Jesus, and also Texas football. He had a great sense of humor and had patience for days. During his football years, Howard was very involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Along his path, Howard touched so many lives through the care he showed,and the love of Jesus he gave,to everyone he encountered. He was always ready with a word of encouragement, and his words always built up those around him. No matter what life situations came his way, he always remained a pleasure to be around and continued to give his life for the benefit of others.In his spare time, Howard was a very avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially football. CHARLES FAGEN

SPEARVILLE, KANSAS - Charles (Butch) Fagen, age 79, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. He was born December 15, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas, son of Clyde and Zola (Wright) Fagen. He was a 1961 graduate of Spearville High School and a long-time Spearville resident. He was a lifelong farmer and dairyman. After retiring from the dairy business, he worked at Walco for 16 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hodgeman County until the closing. Then became a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Spearville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1539 in Spearville. He was a board member for 10 years of county service with the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency. He was a member of the United States Department of Agriculture Hodgeman County ASC Committee for 3 years. He was an honorary Chapter Farmer with Vocational FFA Agriculture. He enjoyed participating in local chili cookoffs and providing BBQ food service for family and friends and large events with his “Full of Bull” cooker. On August 1, 1964, he married Judy Gunkel of Spearville. She survives. Other survivors: Daughter, Kristy Perea and husband Evan, Strasburg, Colorado; Son, Kreg Fagen and wife Tasha, Spearville; 5-Grandchildren: Matthew Waller and wife Nicole, Madison Lyall, Mackenzie Lyall, Thomas Lyall and Teryn Fagen; 5-Great Grandchildren: Havyn, Oakleigh, Lincoln, Sterling and Adalee; and 2 Sisters: Sonja Wasko, Spearville and Glorinda Shearer, Dodge City. He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Zola and son Kelly. Rosary will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Tuesday at the church with Fr. Ben Green presiding. The family request casual dress. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery in Hodgeman County. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. The family sugg
