Dodge City Athletics is pleased to announce Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo as the 2023 season head baseball coach. Cardoza-Oquendo began his coaching career at Dodge City Community college in the fall of 2022 after wrapping up his collegiate baseball playing career as third baseman at Baylor.
The Dodge City boys golf team finished tenth at the state tournament posting a team score of 334 at Sand Creek Station in Newton. They were led by Aidan Robinson and Grayden Gamblin who shot 80 and 82 respectively.
The Ingalls High boys track team finished second at the May 19 regional meet at Greeley County against 15 teams. Four Bulldogs did all the scoring.
Saul Hernandez decided to step down as head coach of the Dodge City High School girls soccer team at the conclusion of the 2023 season according to a press release from the school. As manager of both the boys and girls soccer program, he cited the toll and time commitment as reasons for his decision.
According to a press release, The Kansas Volleyball Association announced their 2023 All-Star squads on Monday. The annual All-Star match will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Lee Arena on the Washburn University campus. Match time will be 4:30 pm.
Dodge City men’s golf team played to a Top 10 finish at the NJCAA Division I National Championships as they finished tied for tenth playing in Newton, Kansas at Sand Creek Station golf course. The Conquistadors for the sixth time under Head Coach, Chris Robinson earned a Top 10 finish at the National Championships as they competed in their 33rd straight national tournament.
Wichita State University, Head Women’s Basketball Coach Terry Nooner and Director of Athletics Kevin Saal announced a home-and-home series with Kansas for the next two seasons in a recent press release from the school.
It was a banner year for the Dodge City High School’s United States Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. With more than 100 members in only its second year of existence, it was awarded the Distinguished Unit Award for the school year 20222023 because it achieved or exceeded all its goals and averaged more than 17 hours of community service per cadet.
Dodge City track and field wrapped up the outdoor season with three athletes competing at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico. Leading the charge for the Conquistadors was the performance of Denise Dominguez who closed out her Dodge City career by earning a spot on the podium in the 10,000-meter run posting a time of 40:19.74 to place seventh in the event.
The Topeka Tropics picked up its first win of the season against the Storm May 20 in Topeka. It was a close first half but the Storm just couldn’t break through in a 43-28 loss to the Tropics.
