Longevity in a career nowadays is celebrated after just five to ten years working at one place but for the past 37 years one individual has been dedicated to Dodge City Community College and the athletic department and we thank him for his hard work and dedication as he retires from coaching. Howie Smith after 37 years working for Dodge City Community College and 32 serving as the head softball coach is retiring.
The Spearville Lancers, the No. 2 seed in the Class 2-1A baseball regional, will play host to No. 4 seed Bucklin Red Aces. Other area teams playing in this regional are Minneola, Sublette and Kinsley.
Bucklin Lady Aces will be the No. 1 seed and Spearville Lady Lancers are the No. 2 seed in the Class 2-1A softball regional which will be hosted by Elkhart High School. Ness City will also play in this Regional are Ness City.
Point Guard University, a basketball training academy located in South Bend, IN, will have three camps this summer in Kansas. One will be in Dodge City at the High School from May 30 to June 2.
The following is the Boys Golf All-WAC League team as compiled by league coaches. Aidan Robinson would earn the Player of the Year, in a sudden death playoff to be earn that honor.
Dodge City softball wrapped up the 2023 season with a run in the Region 6 Tournament that saw the Conquistadors go 2-2 in the tournament finishing the season 19-30. A pair of sophomores had strong seasons to help lead the charge for the Conquistadors this year and both have been honored with KJCCC Division I All-Conference honors.

Tennis player Oscar Alvarado was named WAC player of the year after compiling a 31-5 record during the season. Head coaches in the league voted on the honorees.
After a hard-fought first half, the Salina Liberty turned on the jets on Saturday May 6, leaving the Storm in the dust in a 52-31 win. Salina muted the Storm altogether until the second quarter, but the Storm battled back, as Josh Hollins walked in a touchdown from the goal line to even the score at 21-all going into the intermission.
The Dodge City High School baseball team closed out their regular season in dramatic fashion with a 5-3 win over Liberal Tuesday May 9. The Red Demons took a 3-1 lead in the third inning but Liberal was not going down without a fight as they tied the game 3-3 until the bottom of the 4th inning when the Red Demons took the lead for good and ended the regular season with a 5-3 victory.
