Dodge City softball played host to #20 Butler on a sophomore day to wrap up the home portion of the season and while hanging tough with the Grizzlies the Conquistadors would ultimately fall 9-1 in six innings and 5-1.
The outdoor track and field season continued for the Dodge City Conquistadors and it was a national qualifying and school record performance that paced the Conqs at the Thunderbird Classic hosted by Cloud County in Concordia, Kansas.
Monday’s doubleheader featured two schools that will face off this May. Spearville would pick up a doubleheader sweep, taking game one 11-0, and the finale 13-1 over Kinsley on April 24.
A few individual golds were not enough to push the Red Demons track and field team to the top of the standings Friday, April 21 in Buhler. Hutchinson and Buhler dominated the meet with 114 and 107 points, respectively. Dodge City scored 97 points to finish 17 points ahead of Andover Central.
The Dodge City High School boys golf team finished seventh as they hosted a tournament at Mariah Hills on April 20th. The Red Demons shot a 317, their best round if the year.
The United Rebel Sprint Series made its first of five scheduled appearances at Dodge City Raceway Park April 22 with seventeen cars checking in for the night. Koby Walters and Zach Blurton lead the field to the green with Blurton taking the point coming off of turn two with Walters and Herbert in tow, Herbert took over the runner up spot on lap two.
The Storm laid it all on the line in Salina on Saturday, April 22 but it was not enough as Salina pick up a 45-38 victory over the Storm. The main attraction of this game was a battle between two quarterbacks debuting for their new teams.
College because it was a pivotal time in my life. Also, a big thanks to Coach Thomas and his coaching staff at the time for teaching me what hard work and determination looked like. Dodge City was needed in my journey because it made me cherish every opportunity leading up to this point in my life,” said Penerton about how beneficial his time at Dodge City was to his career and life.
Dodge City softball hit the road to continue KJCCC action and took on Colby and while there was some early offense the Conquistadors ultimately dropped a pair of games on the road falling 9-5 and 8-0 in five innings.
Dodge City men’s golf team wrapped up KJCCC action competing at the Jayhawk Championships in Wichita at Sand Creek Station golf course and took second at the tournament to finish second overall in the KJCCC.
