The Dodge City High School Lady Demons wrestling team made history on Monday with a decisive 51-10 dual victory over the Liberal Redskins. Girl’s wrestling has been a Kansas State High School Activities Association sanctioned sport for the past two years and this is the first year the WAC held varsity duals.
The bats were cooking early as the Dodge City softball team hit the road on Tuesday to open their season and brought home a pair of wins over Lamar 14-6 in six innings and 13-6. Conquistadors scored 27 runs on 29 hits in the two games to open the 2022 season with a 2-0 record.
It was a big week on the court for Dodge City men’s basketball last week going 2-0 with victories on the road at both Garden City and Butler to move to 20-4 on the season. A big piece of the Conquistadors success this season has been the play of guard, Themus Fulks who behind his performances last week has earned KJCCC Division I “Player of the Week” honors.
This week we have several youth wrestlers of the week that include two undefeated young ladies from the middle schools in Dodge City. Liliana Arroyo is a standout wrestler from Comanche Middle School. Arroyo took home first place this past weekend and has a perfect record on the year.
The Dodge City High School bowling team faced Liberal in a WAC match-up. The Lady Demons were led by Jaden Rabe 575 series and that secured her a first-place finish on the day. Carryn Lenz bowled a 539 series and was able to take home a third-place finish. Chailyn Scott and Taylor Lenz both bowled a 529 series and tied for fourth place.
The Spearville Lancers beat Minneola by a score of 54-44 and continues their winning streak to four games. The Lancers outscored Minneola 16-5 in the first quarter. Minneola was able to score 12 points in the second quarter to cut the Lancers lead down, but the Lancers
The Dodge City Wrestling Academy took part in a very competitive Battle of the Belt Tournament this past weekend. The event features teams and wrestlers from all over the United States. Leading the charge for the DCWA was Oakley Rich.
Anthony Valente has been a member of the Dodge City High School swim team for four years. The event that is his favorite and is his best event is the 100M backstroke. Valente is always a team player and willing to do whatever is needed to help out his team. He is a leader and helps his teammates find where they need to be when they are new to the sport. He is always supportive of his teammates and wants to help them do the best they can. He makes sure that everyone on the team is included.
The Bucklin Red Aces won their home game against South Central with a score of 58-49 this past weekend. South Central outscored the Red Aces 17-15 in the first quarter but the second quarter was all Bucklin as they scored 16 points to take a 31-25 lead at halftime.
