The Southern Plains Iroquois Activities Association boys’ championship game was between Bucklin and Hodgeman County which saw Bucklin out score their opponent 18- 11 in the fourth quarter to win the SPIAA championship 53-47.
Saturday night was unforgettable for the Dodge City Lady Demons basketball team — especially for one of its seniors. Not only did a 48-40 victory over Andover Central wrap up a perfect Newton Invitational tournament but senior Camree Johnson reached the 1,000-point milestone for her career.
The Southern Plains Iroquois Activities Association girls basketball championship game was between Hodgeman County and South Central Saturday. South Central played hard and clearly gave a strong effort, but Hodgeman County left no doubt why they are the number one seed in the tournament. South Central led by one with the score 10-9 in the first quarter, but Hodgeman outscored South Central 14-10 at the end of the second quarter to take a 23-20 lead.
The Dodge City Red Demons defeated the Great Bend Panthers in a physical WAC game by a score of 51-43. In speaking on the game, Dodge City head coach Shane Traughber said, “We were a little shorthanded because of illness tonight, but were able to tough out a win against a solid Great Bend team who played well.” Isaiah Taylor and Cooper Scheck both scored 14 points in this game.
A strong second half carried the Dodge City men’s basketball team to a convincing victory at home on Saurday over Northwest Kansas Tech 85-55. The Conquistadors with the win improved to 18-4 on the season and 13-3 in conference play, while also remaining unbeaten at home at 11-0.
Dodge City women’s basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday snapping a two-game losing streak with a 70-46 victory over Northwest Kansas Tech. The win moves the Conquistadors to 12-8 on the season and 7-7 in Jayhawk Conference action.
The Dodge City High School bowling team took part in the Great Plains High School Invitational hosted by Wichita North at North Rock Lanes. The format was 3 team games followed by 12 Baker team games.
The Dodge City Red Demons swimming team traveled to Wichita to take part in the Wichita Northwest High School Invitational. This meet featured 19 teams from across the state with the Red Demons taking 14th place out of 19 teams.
For the first time all season, the Dodge City Lady Demons were able to put their full varsity line-up on the mat at the same event. The results showed as they would win a tight team race with Randall High School from Amarillo, Texas, by 7 team points.
