Lady Demons earn victory in nail-biter

A close battle saw the Dodge City Lady Demons deliver a heartbreaker to the Colby Lady Eagles as the Lady Demons won 44-43. The Lady Demons improved to 7-1 on the season after a 13-point second half comeback. It all came down to a Camree Johnson free throw with 0:08 left being the difference maker. Johnson finished the night with her second double-double of her career, with 24-points and 11-rebounds. Becca Unruh scored 11 points and 5 assists on the night. Brooklynn Jones led the Colby Eagles with 21 points.

Bucklin beats Pawnee Heights in hoops

The Bucklin Red Aces won their home conference game against Pawnee Heights 77-51. Bucklin is 4-3 on the year and undefeated in conference play. Pawnee Heights was led by Alec Carlson and he put on a show with his 26 points and 6 rebounds. Carlson is averaging 21 PPG so far this year. Bucklin's Jaron Lindsay was on fire.

Coach Coon on the move to Southeast Missouri

Ricky Coon is heading to Southeast Missouri as the new defensive coordinator. Coach Coon led the Conquistadors for three seasons as head coach and did some great things in the community. For five years, Ricky coached SEMO's defensive line and was an assistant head coach from 2014-18. Coon also made stops at Northwest Mississippi Community College (Defensive Coordinator, 2013), NCAA Division II members Southwest Baptist (Defensive Line, 2012) and Northern State (Defensive Line, 2006), Ellsworth CC (Defensive Coordinator, 2009-11), Highland CC (Defensive Coordinator/Head Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, 2007-08) and Bethel College (Defensive Line/Strength & Conditioning Coordinator). Red Demons beat Ulysses

The Dodge City Red Demons boys basketball team improved to 7-0 on the season by beating Ulysses 64-21. Dylan Smith had a career high of 15 points on the night. Cooper Scheck also finished the night with 15 points. The Tigers couldn’t stop Dodge City and was unable to make any shots. Dodge City was shooting 38.1% on the night while Ulysses was 19.6%. The Red Demons will make a trip up to Colby this Friday.

Lady Demons cage the Tigers

The Dodge City Lady Demons basketball team improved to 6-1 on the season following their largest margin of victory in program history, 89-17 over the Ulysses Lady Tigers. Tuesday’s game broke a few singleseason records in margin of victory, most assists in a game with 30 and 38 field goals made.

Aguilar picked for Shrine Bowl

Dodge City’s Emanuel Aguilar has been selected to play in the 49th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl Game. Aguilar will serve as the specialist for the West Team. Aguilar is considered one of the best specialists in the state and we are looking forward to seeing where he will be playing in the fall.

DODGE CITY WRESTLING ACADEMY RESULTS

The wrestling academy took part in two tournaments this weekend. The first tournament was the United States Junior Open Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla. This tournament featured competition from all over the country. DCWA very own Oakley Rich 10U, 100lbs won first place, deeming him both an All-American and a National Champion.
