Athlete of the Week Cooper Scheck

Our Athlete of the week is helping the Dodge City Red Demons boys basketball team enter 2022 with a 6-0 record. Cooper Scheck had 22 points against Woodward and is averaging 20.8 ppg. Scheck is shooting 55% from behind the arc in the last 4 games. Scheck scored a career-high 24 points against Wray (Colo). in the Topside Tipoff Tournament championship game in Goodland, tying a school record with 8 3-pointers made. SUBMITTED

Outdoors: Wacky Warnings

Somewhere on my lengthy list of unanswered questions is the query that asks “Just how far will we go to protect ourselves from ourselves?” Don’t get me wrong, there are some very necessary warnings out there, like huge letters on a tank of gasoline that read “FLAMMABLE,” or flags that tell us “Road Work Ahead.” But for every good and reasonable warning are a dozen other absolutely wacky warnings that leave us shaking our head. The thing to remember about wacky warnings is that they got there because someone, somewhere actually did what the warnings tell you not to do.

Youth Wrestler of the Week

Brody Weil is our wrestler of the week. He is currently a member of the Dodge City Wrestling Academy. At 8 years old and 95 pounds, he is already a veteran hammer on the mat. He had a first-place finish in Pratt and looks forward to his next match. He is a Kansas State qualifier, a two-time Redskin Battle of the West champion, a DCWA Shootout champion, a Leoti Takedown champion and Gray County Wrestling Tournament champion.
