DCCC women’s basketball drops conference tilt at Cloud County

Dodge City women wrapped up the first semester with a tough road loss to Cloud County as the Thunderbirds used a strong shooting night handing the Conquistadors the 87-55 loss. With an early 8-0 run by Cloud County the Thunderbirds would hold the lead a majority of the contest and the Conqs took their fifth loss of the season falling to 9-5 on the season and 4-4 in KJCCC play.

Athlete of the Week: Ashley Alonso

The Dodge City wrestling program has been a shining example of continued excellence year in and year out but there is a rising star for the Lady Demons. Freshman girls wrestling standout Ashley Alonso is showing her competition that she is a true force to be reckoned with. Alonso has a 9-2 record on the year and four of those wins are against ranked opponents. This past weekend Alonso was able to come away with a 2nd place finish. On her way to the finals, she beat the defending D2 state champion 11-7 in the quarters and returning state placer in the semis by pin. COURTESY PHOTO

Bucklin boys basketball tops Ellis 77-21

The Bucklin Red Aces were hitting on all cylinders in a 77-21 win over the Larned Indians. Buckin was led by Scott Price and Kolson Cook. Cook would end the night with 17 points and Price finished the game with 18 points. Jaron Lindsay led the team with 8 rebounds on the night. Bucklin finished the Keady Classic Basketball Tournament with a 2-2 record on the season.
