With nary an idle hand among them, Girl Scout Troop 60538 achieved a major milestone this year when they earned the organization’s Silver Award.
Nora Nolan, Emilea Klenke and Eliza Ortega each clocked more than 50 hours of service to this community via several projects and partnerships to raise awareness of avian and insect issues as well as to meet the needs of others.
In addition to their traditional cookie sales in the rain, sleet and sun, the middle school students stepped out from behind the fundraising table to
• aid Dodge City Community College with a major insect pollinator garden
• donate American flags to bolster the patriotism already planted in the 14th Avenue Dodge City Women’s Chamber of Commerce rose garden
• lead a birdhouse building workshop at Dodge City Public Library
• build a website of educational resources to help reach even more people
• assemble and donate bird-watching kits to the DC3 library for the public to check out
• hand craft and sell jewelry, jars and greeting cards
