Lyndon – Gary Lee Burkhart, age 77, of Lyndon, Kansas, passed away on October 25th, 2022 at his home. He was born on October 29, 1944, in Dodge City, Kansas, to William and Martina (Hertel) Burkhart. He married Linda Kay Feldman on September 28th, 1963 in Offerle, Kansas. She survives. Gary grew up on a farm in SE Hodgeman County around the Spearville/Offerle area. He attended high school at Windhorst, Kansas until the deteriorating health of his father took him back to the farm to work. He worked for the Hodgeman County road department from 1963-1995 and was the road supervisor from 1978-1995. He worked for CJ Feeders and Herrmann Land and Cattle from 1995-2014. He then officially retired at the age of 70.
He lived in Jetmore, Kansas from 1965-2015 before moving to Lyndon, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Linda and two sons, John (Diane) Burkhart of Hutchinson, Kansas and Wayne (Amy) Burkhart of Topeka, Kansas. Five brothers, Don of Goddard, Allen (Betty) of Wright, Kansas, Mark of Spearville, Kansas, Norman (Linda) of Arlington, Kansas and Tom (Krista) of Cimarron, Kansas. Three Sisters, Elaine (Jerry) Gerber of Garden Plain, Kansas, Connie (Jerry) Burgardt of Pratt, Kansas, Linda (Melvin) Strecker of Spearville, Kansas and brother-in-law, Gerry Grasser, Garden City, Kansas. He has 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roger Burkhart and one sister Patricia Grasser and sister-in-law, Annette Burkhart. Gary enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with friends and family. He spent time in the mountains on their 4 wheeler enjoying the outdoors. He loved listening to some good old country and polka music and watching old westerns. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the new Saint Joseph Cemetery in Offerle, Kansas, with Father Benjamin Green presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, Kansas.
