Gerald Dean Dowling

Dodge City – Gerald Dean Dowling, 89, died July 7, 2022 at Reflection Living, Dodge City. He was born on March 26, 1933 at Dodge City, the son of Carl and Mary (Kimbell) Dowling.

Dean spent his life south of Dodge City, farming and ranching. In 1968, Dean received the Outstanding Young Farmer award in recognition of exceptional progress in agriculture and contributions to the community. He also served for several years on the boards of Enterprise Township, the Wright Co-op, and Kansas Farm Bureau.

He and wife Louise went on to run a large farm and ranch that included a cattle feed yard and a breeding operation for hogs. He and Louise enjoyed square dancing and were involved in various clubs in the area. In addition to dancing, he enjoyed “calling” a song or two along the way. He spent his later years, spending time with Louise and friends playing dominos and cards at the local senior center.

Dean was an active member, volunteer, and supporter of Ford County 4-H, including leading an equine club. Dowling served on the Ford County Fair Board and the state of Kansas 4-H board. He was later honored the 4-H Salute Award for over 30 years of contributions to his local club.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Louise, his son and daughter Kelly and Shelly Dowling, Dodge City, his four grandchildren, Tanner Dowling and wife, Cassi, their children Sache and Cinch of Fair Grove, Missouri; Garrett Dowling and wife, Chanda, their children Oakley and Tripp of Bois D’Arc, Missouri; Payden Dowling and partner Patrick, Chicago, Illinois; and Laton Dowling and wife Sophia, and their children Frankie Lou and Mia of Dodge City.

Funeral service will be held at Christ The King Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Corky Spitler presiding. Burial will follow at Christ The King Lutheran Cemetery in Ford County.
