CIMARRON – Jessie M.“Peggy” Speer, 92, died Friday, November 26, 2021 at the Shepherd’s Center, Cimarron.

She was born Jessie Koehn on May 15, 1929 in Gray County the sixth of twelve children born to Jesse H. and Katrina Phyllis (Boehs) Koehn. Peggy graduated from Cimarron High School in 1947 and spent her early adult years in Ford and Gray counties. She then traveled, living in Los Angeles, California and several other Western States where she worked as a housekeeper and nanny as well as a hospital cook before returning to Gray County in 1980 to become the Caretaker for her aging parents. In her later years she enjoyed reading, crosswords and word finds. Peggy was a member of the Cimarron Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include: a brother, Max Koehn, Oceanside, California; 2 sisters, Jeanette Monroe, Topeka and Dixie Hertel, Cimarron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Shirley Koehn, Bobetta Speer, Malee Van Norden, Harold Koehn, Jack Koehn, Floyd Koehn, Josie Koehn and Olive Lavonne “Vonnie” Koehn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Jeff Hiers officiating. Burial will follow in the Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
