DODGE CITY- Joan Marie Phillips, 88, died Saturday, June 4, 2022 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
She was born September 27, 1933 at Coffeyville, Kansas, the daughter of Paul Ignatius and Rose (Riley) Wishall. She moved to Dodge City in 1958 and began her career as a Registered Nurse, retiring in September 2000. She worked at Trinity Hospital and Humana Hospital in Dodge City and the Kansas Soldiers Home Pharmacy in Fort Dodge.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City and the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, being with family and friends, and visiting with retired nurses at their monthly luncheons.
On October 11, 1958 she married Marvin Bennett “Ben” Phillips at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2020.
Survivors include: 4 children, Lisa Bolmer and husband Skip, Lakin, Bradley Phillips and wife Susan, Chula Vista, California, Brenton Phillips and wife Wonda, Concordia and Brian Phillips, Dodge City; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Phillips, Jessica Romesburg and husband Nate, Jaden Esquivel and husband Julio, Nick Phillips and partner Summer Krueger, Michael Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Rachel Rae and husband Josh, Meagan Phillips, Colleen Randolph and husband Mark and Corey Brunkow and wife Stephanie; 8 great grandchildren, Ambrose Eck, Savannah Brunkow, Marley Romesburg, Kadence Romesburg, Bennett Phillips, Tristan Esquivel, Izabella Krueger and Scarlet Chin; 2 brothers, John Wishall, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Mike Wishall, Milliken, Colorado; and 5 sisters, Patricia Muller, Coffeyville, Kathleen Dunn, Pittsfield, Illinois, Rose Marie Robinson, Dodge City, Teresa Frieze, Shawnee, Kansas and Bernadette Bilderback, Altamont, Kansas.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Michelle Phillips, a brother, Joseph Wishall, a brother-in-law, Larry Muller and a sister-in-law, Cathy Wishall.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the church with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Visitation will be Monday from noon to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
