John K. Cockrell, 70, retired lumber and hardware salesman, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013. John proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy on the Valley Forge Aircraft Carrier. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jody, and is survived by his father, Carl of Dodge City, sister, Carolyn (Neal) Slattery of Goodland, KS., nieces, Kalie (Steven) Bell of Alaska, Kaisha (Matthew) Edgerle of Salina and nephew Kailen (Tonya) Goddard of Nashville, Tenn., five grand nieces and nephews. Memorial services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita. Inurnment of the ashes will take place July 8 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Veterans Hospital, the T.L.C. Hospice Unit, 5500 E. Kellogg, Wichita, KS., 67218.
