Husband, Father, Grandpa, Marine, Johnnie Simon Remigio, went home to Heaven on Friday July 22nd.

Born March 4th, 1949, he excelled at baseball and was named MVP of the American Legion Rangers in 1967. He also played for the Dodge City A’s and DCCC baseball teams and was invited to try out for the San Francisco Giants.

He married the love of his life, Virginia, five days before leaving to serve proudly in the 2/26 Fox Company of the United States Marine Corps. In the Corps, he was a member of the 400 club and volunteer Tunnel Rat and Point Man in the Vietnam War. His service in the Vietnam War was immortalized in a book called The Boot Hill Coffee Club Volume 2, Chapter 17.

After his military service, he returned home to Dodge City where he finished his degree at DCCC and began his 33-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, VFW, and Vietnam Veterans group of Dodge City.

He and his wife, Virginia, won First place in the Twist contest at the Dodge House Saloon in 1976.

During his years in Dodge City, he coached all levels of baseball, but was best known for coaching American Legion Baseball, becoming an influential person to many of the kids he coached.

He was a lifelong Catholic and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Dodge City, during which time, he was asked to patrol the grounds while his wife taught CCD for 13 years.

He enjoyed fishing and camping, KU Basketball, The KC Chiefs, and of course his SF Giants.

He was recently honored for his service by attending the Kansas Honor Flight #90 and received the Hero’s welcome long overdue.

Of all the things he was most proud of, his boys were the most treasured. Anthony, Trinity, Simon, Michael, and Ricky… until his first grandchild, Colbey was born.

He absolutely adored his grandchildren: Colbey, Marcus, AJ, Amanda, Taryn, Jocelyn, Alexis, Adrian, Jaida, Isaiah, Sofia, Gabriel, Robbie and Great Grandchildren, Elia, Romeo, Azariah and Namine.

Most of all, he loved his wife and best friend, Virginia, with whom he was married 53 years.

He was preceded in Heaven by his beloved Grandmother Magdalena, parents, Juan and Mary Remigio, his son Christopher, and his best friends Richard Stubblefield, Rudy Esquibel, and Richard Cecil.
