SPEARVILLE Mark William Downey, 60, died Friday, March 11, 2022 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

He was born on May 3, 1961 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of William John and Theresa J. (Walker) Downey. He was a lifetime Windthorst resident and graduated high school in Spearville. He was a lifetime farmer and stockman.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus #1539 in Spearville and the Sierra Club. He loved the land and had a great compassion for animals. He enjoyed reading and had a passion for history and his heritage.

On May 19, 1990 he married Becky L. Huntley at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville. She survives.

Survivors also include: his mother, Theresa Downey, Dodge City; 3 sisters, Mary Jane ”Baines” Goebel and husband Burke, Jetmore, JoAnne Nash, Dodge City, and Jerelyn Schneweis and husband Ron, Dodge City; a brother-in-law, Bill Huntley and wife Jean, Kinsley; a sister-in-law, Barbara Bell and husband Monty, Manhattan, Kansas. He will be missed by his family and friends and he was an awesome uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, Henry and Clara Downey, father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Bonnie Huntley.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2021 at 2:00 pm with a rosary prior to the service at 1:30 pm both at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville with Fr. John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst. Visitation will be held Monday from noon to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, Kansas.
