Casper man walks away from airplane crash in Gray County

A Kitfox 5 Vixen aircraft crashed nose first about 50 yards east of the Montezuma Airport runway June 25, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log. The pilot, Lane Lester Smothers, 55, of Casper, Wyoming, walked away unscathed.

Doris Maxine Spence

Doris Maxine Spence was born February 16, 1926, in Cherryvale, Kansas, the daughter of Bert and Robbie Irene (Allen) Flood. She passed away June 23, 2022, at SunPorch of Dodge City, Dodge City, Kansas.

Mark Slattery

Larned- Mark Owen Slattery, 50, passed away June 25, 2022 at his home in Larned, KS. He was born February 25, 1972 in Bucklin, KS. the son of James O. and Donna L. Vandehey Slattery. Moving from Protection and Dodge City he was a Larned area resident for 14 years.

John Slaven

Cimarron - John Paul Slaven, 93, died June 23, 2022 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. He was born on September 2, 1928 in Sitka, Kansas the son of John W. and Dora I. (McClung) Slaven.

Dodge City Commission sets public hearing for Hilmar TIF district, prepares for fireworks

At its June 20 meeting, the Dodge City Commission set a public hearing to consider the proposed creation of the Hilmar Bioscience Development District, or tax increment financing district, (TIF.) Mayor Kent Smoll, Vice Mayor Michael Burns, and commissioners Joe Nuci, Chuck Taylor and Rick Sowers present at the meeting. The resolution to set the hearing was approved unanimously.

City of Dodge City urges all residents to help conserve water

Due to the current heat wave and drought conditions, the City of Dodge City is urging all residents to discontinue any unnecessary watering. City Departments have evaluated watering based on the City’s current Drought/ Emergency Contingency Plan and Ordinance No. 3585.
