JETMORE – Rhondalyn “Rhonda” Ladair Hendrickson, formerly of Hanston, Kan., passed away on Oct. 11, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, at the age of 65. She was born on Feb. 9, 1957, in Larned, Kan. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Jo Ann (Law) Hendrickson. Rhonda is survived by her brothers, Rick (Leanna) Hendrickson, Hays, Kan.; Kelly Hendrickson, Leoti, Kan.; sisters, Roxann (Ralph) Fuchs, Hanston; Shawn (Roger) Hoff, Scranton, Kan.; Tonya Donley, Moville, Iowa; Gayle (Les) Worthey, Hanston; Brenda (Fred) Kyte, Garfield, Ark.; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dustin Hendrickson. Rhonda was a 1975 graduate of Hanston High School, and after high school she worked and attended classes at Kansas State University.
During her life, Rhonda worked as a cook or a para at various schools and hospitals in the Southwest Kansas area. And for several years, she also lived in Nebraska, working as a caretaker at a house for adults with mental and physical disabilities. Rhonda loved to cook for her family and friends, especially desserts, and she enjoyed collecting recipes and recipe books. She also was a talented seamstress and made many of her own clothes. Rhonda was a huge lover of animals and nature, and she was a lifelong avid gardener. She loved the farm life, and she spent her free time in her later years helping the Ziesch family with farming, ranching and gardening activities. Rhonda attended the United Methodist Churches in Hanston and Jetmore throughout her life, and for the past several years she attended the Hanston First Baptist Church. She was passionate about her faith, and one of the biggest milestones of her life was going on a mission trip to Haiti in 2013 with the Jetmore United Methodist Church.
She also enjoyed serving as a camel herder at the annual Journey to Bethlehem, in Jetmore, and volunteering as a cook at the Journey to the Cross Rodeo Bible Camp, in Garden City, Kan. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life service and dinner is planned for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Hanston First Baptist Church, with Pastor Rod McMillan presiding. A graveside inurnment service will follow on Friday, Dec. 30, at Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
