DODGE CITY- Shirley N. Rumsey, 88, died Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
She was born August 20, 1933 at Dodge City, the daughter of Chet Earl and Ruby C. (Hocking) Ross. She was a graduate of Dodge City High School and received her Associates Degree form Dodge City Community College. She was a lifetime Dodge City resident and was a secretary in the Vocational Rehab Department at SRS in Dodge City for 30 years, retiring in 2014.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Women’s Chamber and Circle of Hope all in Dodge City. She enjoyed gardening and socializing, especially with her McDonalds coffee group.
On August 12, 1951 she married Wayne Rumsey at the First Baptist Church in Dodge City. They later divorced.
Survivors include: her 2 daughters, Suzy Busch and Dana Essenburg both of Dodge City; her brother, David C. Ross, Kalvesta; 4 grandchildren, Jordan Rodriguez and husband Cesario, Ross Essenburg, Jerad Busch and Jenna Rouse and husband James; and 4 great grandchildren, Katie Rouse, Lexi Rouse, Emmett Rodriguez and Anniston Rodriguez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Bruce Rumsey and a grandson, Jacob Busch.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Jeff Hiers officiating. Entombment will follow in the Scroggins Mausoleum at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
