Wilma L. Luft Berger, 96, passed away Sunday Oct. 14, 2012 at Hill Top House Nursing Home.

She was born June 8, 1916 in Bucklin, Kan., the daughter of Fred and Maud (Bell) Luft. She grew up south of Bucklin and went to grade school at North Star Country School.  She graduated from Bucklin High School in 1934 and attended Emporia Teachers College in Emporia, Kan. for two years.  She received a Lifetime teaching certificate and taught 5th and 6th at Bucklin Grade School for five years.

On April 13, 1941, she married Kenneth K. Berger in Bucklin.  He died January 1, 1998.

After Kenneth was discharged from the army, he returned to the family farm. They lived on the farm until they built a house in town in 1953. In 1946, their first son Ron was born; then in 1950 daughter Kathy joined the family and in 1955 Brent was born. After their children were in school, she substitute taught in the Bucklin schools and also tutored children who couldn't attend school.  She belonged to several clubs and was a member of the Christian Church and was their treasurer for several years. She and Kenneth loved to travel and took many trips but especially enjoyed going to Hawaii every winter.

Wilma went to live at Hill Top House in 2008 and appreciated the wonderful care she was given while there. Many times she would say that Bucklin is so lucky to have such a nice facility.

Survivors include two sons Ron and wife Christy, Kansas City and Brent and wife Karen, Tomball, Texas; a daughter, Kathy and husband Larry Feikert of Bucklin; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Evangeline Fletcher of Bucklin.

The family suggests memorials to Bucklin Christian Church or Hill Top House, c/o of Minnis Mortuary, Box 516, Bucklin KS 67834.
