When Paloma Gomez smelled smoke from inside her garage on Brier Street and Avenue K in Dodge City in the early hours of April 21, she said she thought someone was having a bonfire outside. “I was putting together some things to donate to the Salvation Army when I smelled the smoke,” Gomez said.

Any day could be record store day in Ness City

There’s a sign on the front door of Black Hole Vinyl that reads, “Text me and I’ll be right over.” The record store is full of new and vintage vinyl records, cassette tapes and CD’s, but it doesn’t qualify to host an annual event called Record Store Day on April 23 that is celebrated around the world by his peers because owner Scott Barb doesn’t keep regular enough hours. “As far as I know I’m the only record store from here to Wichita,” Barb said.

DCCC: Softball falls to Colby in conference twinbill

Dodge City softball hosted Colby for a KJCCC doubleheader on Wednesday and dropped a pair of tough games falling 9-1 in game one in six innings and losing game two 9-6. The pair of losses send the Conquistadors to 18-22 on the season and 12-14 in KJCCC play.

A CAKE TO CELEBRATE SISTERHOOD:

Chapter HM of PEO (a philanthropic educational organization dedicated to the education of women) met April 19 in the home of Jan Scoggins to celebrate the 47th anniversary of their chapter. About 14 members enjoyed a selection of delicious salads, followed by a homemade three-layer marble cake, decorated with home baked chocolate chip cookies, and served with ice cream. DCCC PTK inducts spring members

The Kappa Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society at Dodge City Community College (DCCC) inducted 14 new members and installed four new officers Tuesday, April 19. This seminar was insightful and provided a chance to advocate wheat foods to key people in the food industry.
