Sugar Moon Bakery was filled with sweet sunshine the morning owner Luna Gutiérrez opened her doors to a group of students from Dodge City High School on a field trip for French class. The first words many exclaimed when they walked inside was “bonita,” meaning beautiful.

The Dodge City Chapter of the Kansas Daughters of the American Revolution held its March 12 meeting at the Dodge City Masonic Lodge. It was called to order at 1:50 pm by Regent Katie Schmidt. Seven members were present.

DCHS baseball sweeps Wichita South

The Dodge City Red Demons picked up two solid wins over Wichita South Friday night in Wichita. In the first game the Red Demons defeated South 11-0 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Remmington Miller led the Red Demons to victory by driving in five runs. Miller went 3-for-4 at the plate. Miller drove in runs on a triple in the fourth and a single in the seventh. On the mound for the Red Demons was Chayston Keck, who had a strong performance in the victory. Keck went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one. Arec Mendoza threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. The Red Demons tallied 11 hits on the day. Miller, Layton Blatnick, and Caleb Miles each had multiple hits in the game. Miller led the team with three hits in four at bats.

DCHS Swimming: Swim Team Take 2nd at Great Bend Meet

The Lady Demons Swim Team captured second place in Great Bend on Tuesday April 5 with 406 points. Some notable finishes were, Ashlyn Armstrong taking 1st in the 200 free and Paige Mink taking 3rd, Eva Friess taking 3rd in the 100 butterfly, Ashlyn Armstrong taking 1st in the 500 freestyle, Adienne Asebedo taking 3rd in the 100 breaststroke, and the relay team of Eva Friess, Ashlyn Armstrong, Paige Mink, and Faith Woydziak taking 1st in the 400 free relay.

SHS baseball sweeps Satanta

The Spearville Lancers showed how explosive they can be as they picked up two blowout wins over Satanta on Friday night. In the first game Aydin Ruiz was brilliant on the mound, as Ruiz threw a no-hitter to lead Spearville past Satanta 20-0. Spearville secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the fourth inning.
