Through the past several weeks, I’ve discussed the history of The Salvation Army. Its birth in the slums of East London. Its journey across the Atlantic to America. Finally, its arrival here in Dodge City. Through it all, we’ve learned of names and faces of people long gone. Today, I’d like to introduce people who are very much still with us. Dancing in the streets the days before Christmas

Two dance troupes in downtown Dodge City Monday night honored the appearance of the virgin Mary in Mexico City in the days leading to Christmas. Danza Tepayac and Danza Santa Cruz took part in the Mexican tradition of Catholicism in celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe’s miracles in Tepayac by making their own wooden bows and dancing in a coordinated routine to the rhythmic sound of drums and wooden beads.
