USDA to Allow Producers to Request Voluntary Termination of Conservation Reserve Program Contract

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Agriculture will allow Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) participants who are in the final year of their CRP contract to request voluntary termination of their CRP contract following the end of the primary nesting season for fiscal year 2022. Participants approved for this one-time, voluntary termination will not have to repay rental payments, a flexibility implemented this year to help mitigate the global food supply challenges caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and other factors. Today, USDA also announced additional flexibilities for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).

Trees slow to leaf out

There have been a number of trees in the area that have been slow to leaf out this spring. I am sure they are like the rest of us and wondering what season we are in. If we wait a day or two it will probably change. In most cases, this is likely due to stress. This year, many trees were stressed from the abnormally dry weather last fall and winter.

Remember and relax this Memorial Day

Perhaps you’ll feast at a backyard barbeque. Or maybe you already have a space staked out at the lake. For many, a walk through a cemetery or two will be part of the weekend, carefully placing flowers at the graves of loved ones. Others will pay their respects to our military dead in a public ceremony.
