DCCC: Baseball wraps up regular season with tough series vs Hutch

Dodge City baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a tough four-game series against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons, dropping all four games by scores of 11-9, 17-8, 11-8, and 13-2. The Conquistadors finish the regular season with a 28-25 record and finish 15-17 in the KJCCC West finishing sixth in the division.

SHS softball: sweeps the Trojans

Tawney Krominga threw a gem in game one for Spearville Lady Lancers, allowing zero runs and besting Trojans by a score of 15-0. The Lady Lancers secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the third inning.

BHS softball: sweeps Sylvan-Lucas

In game one the Lady Aces easily dispatched Sylvan-Lucas 11-3. The Lady Aces got things started in the first inning when Tory Maris singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

DCCC: 4 softball players earn All-Conference honors

Dodge City softball team finished out the 2022 season with a 20-28 record and four of their players earned postseason honors in the KJCCC, earning All-Conference honors on the Division I side. Freshman, Melanie Castro, and Riley Haney each picked up second-team honors at shortstop and utility, while freshman, Addison Spencer, and sophomore, Stephanie Torres earned honorable mention honors at first base and outfield, respectively.

Spring cleaning and tending to the garden

We are into the first week of May. The grass is growing fast with all the rain April brought us. We need to buy a new mower. Ours last year was getting repaired constantly. I couldn’t believe what new ones are selling for now. It seems like one thing or another is giving up or needing to be repaired. It’s a part of life!

Southwest Kansas wheat devastated by drought

Last week saw much needed rainfall across the state, but areas in southwest Kansas missed out on it once again. Much of southwest Kansas has gone nearly 300 days without an inch of precipitation. Annual average rainfall is about 12” in southwest Kansas, and much of the area has seen about 1/3 of that over the past year and less than an inch since wheat was planted in the fall.

Death investigation in Gray County gets preliminary result

CIMARRON – A preliminary result has been reached in the death of a person in Cimarron according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The result stems from an incident that occurred on May 5 at around 12:30 p.m., when the Gray County Sheriff’s Office, KBI and Office of the State Fire Marshal were called to a fire of a trailer located at 301 S.
