Kansas comes back, wins NCAA title 3 years in the making

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Great Kansas Comeback, as it will forever be known in the history books, is about more than just one stifling, scintillating 20-minute stretch of Jayhawks basketball. The championship KU captured Monday night traced its roots back to 2020, when the Jayhawks were a team that looked very much on track for the program’s fourth national title.

DODGE CITY - Tracey Lee Hodges 64, died Saturday April 2 after bravely battling chronic health issues for several years. Tracey was born October 4, 1957 in Dodge City. She was the youngest daughter of Bob and Pat Hodges, Wilroads Gardens. Tracey was a lifelong resident of Dodge City. In her later years, Tracey did volunteer work for several Dodge City organizations, enjoyed reading, and watching Wheel of Fortune.

Raul Rincon Jr.

Dodge City - Raul Rincon Jr., 31, died April 3, 2022 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on June 22, 1990 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of Raul Rincon Sr. and Alma (Briones) Rincon.

Jeanette Marie Tommer

Jeanette Marie Tommer, 78, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away April 3, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born December 14, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph Clem and Helen Cline Langlois. Jeanette has resided in Lyons since 1971, formerly of Kinsley, Kansas. She graduated from Windhorst High School, Windhorst, Kansas, with the class of 1961. Jeanette was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, CNA and CMA at various local nursing homes, and a Rice County Dispatcher. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and the Sterling American Legion Post #128. On August 17, 1963, Jeanette was united in marriage with Richard Tommer, Sr. in Spearville, Kansas. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her three sons, Rick Tommer and wife Julie of Sterling, KS, Terry Tommer and wife Selena Dawn of Kansas City, KS, and Wayne Tommer of Alden, KS; daughter, Celena Bray and husband Cy of Stilwell, OK; brother, John “Jack” Langlois of Dodge City, KS; sister, Janice Beebe and husband Ken of Littleton, CO; twenty grandchildren, Alexis, Brandon, Trenton, Adyan, Zach, Layne, Audrey, Calvin, Hannah, Shelbie, Chelsie, Tandra, Kevin, Ed, Stasha, Mariah, Jenny, Brandi, Sarah, Maranda; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph Robert Tommer; daughter, Cindy Rusch; brother and sister-inlaw, James and Judy Langlois; and sister-in-law, Thelma Langlois. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Kinsley, Kansas, at a later date. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 7, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with family present. A Parish Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the St. Paul Altar Society in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

PROTECTION - Charles Edward Mosshart, 74, died Saturday, January 15, 2022. He was born March 22, 1947 in Ashland, Kansas. Charlie graduated from Ashland High School in 1965 and then went on to technical school to study machining.

Manhattan - Anna M. Imel, 67, died April 1, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills Nursing Home in Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on January 3, 1955 at Dodge City, Kansas the daughter of Bernardo and Anita (Herrera) Lopez.

City to replace leaky library roof

The city commission voted in favor of paying the majority cost of a new roof for the Dodge City Public Library, ensuring a persistent leak over the bilingual section on the main floor will no longer threaten the contents inside the city-owned building.

Ford County declares March, April storm disaster

The Ford County Commission adopted a resolution that declared March 17 to April 15 a disaster emergency due to storms at its April 4 meeting. Commissioner Chris Boys and Shawn Tasset were present with Commissioner Ken Snook on speakerphone.
