Friday, February 10, 2023, Philomath was hosted in the home of Beth Love assisted by co-hostess Dottie Riekenberg. Valentines were our table theme, a natural for the LOVE residence. We were served dessert to match the holiday and little Valentine gnomes and conversation hearts as a take home treat. President Beth called the meeting to order and 17 members answered roll call telling their plans for the big game on Sunday. A welcome was extended to a new member, Mary Hall. The yearbook committee for 20232024 was announced; Jayne Shalby, Denise Parker and Janice Scott.

HUD to benefit low-income seniors

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Multifamily Housing Programs announced today new guidance to reinforce the importance of required supportive service programs and the many allowable uses of supportive services funds to support independent living for seniors. The guidance applies to owners of properties participating in project-based rental assistance contracts (PRACs) under HUD’s Multifamily Section 202 Supportive Housing for Low-Income Elderly program and includes details for the provision of individual services such as meal programs, and services such as transportation and health and wellness programs that can benefit the entire community at a property.

Demon wrestlers victorious on Senior Night

The Dodge City Lady Demons wrestling team solidified the WAC title outright with a 48-19 victory over Liberal on Senior Night. The Lady Demons won the WAC title for the second straight season.

DCCC: Men’s basketball outduels Butler in top 20 KJCCC battle

Dodge City men’s basketball stake claim on first place in the KJCCC once again by fending off another challenge to remain atop the KJCCC behind a 69-68 win over Butler. The top 20 battle saw the Conqs improve to 18-6 on the season and 14-4 in KJCCC action.

NORMA LOUISE SETTLEMYER

Norma Louise Settlemyer, 71, of Dodge City, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the home of her sister, Mayetta, in Burlington, KS. Norma was born November 2, 1951 at Yates Center, KS, the daughter of Norman Richard and Velma Louise (Pendley) Settlemyer. She attended the Burlington schools where she was a talented athlete. She especially enjoyed softball. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1969. She was a member of a track and field club in Topeka. She was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. She started out driving her father’s milk truck while in high school. She was employed for a number of years at the Ford County Landfill at Dodge City before retiring last years. She was a cat lover. She is survived by two sisters, Mayetta Ruth Taylor, Burlington, and Lila Belle Winterringer, New Strawn, KS; a brother, Arthur Settlemyer, Burlington; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Norma will be cremated. No services are scheduled. Jones Funeral Home in Burlington is assisting the family.

FORD Jacqueline Ann Doody, 66, died Monday, February 6, 2023 at Minneola District Hospital, Minneola, Kansas. She was born on December 17, 1956 at Tulsa, Oklahoma the daughter of Earl and Evelyn (Schmidt) Tompkins.

Tony Mattivi named 13th KBI Director

Tony Mattivi was named the 13th director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), when the Kansas Senate confirmed his appointment, today. Attorney General Kris Kobach nominated Mattivi to be KBI director on January 9, 2023, citing his decades of experience working with law enforcement to put away some of the nation’s most violent and dangerous offenders.
